Um diagnóstico precoce pode ser o melhor caminho para tratar essa doença silenciosa que atinge milhões de pessoas. São crianças como qualquer outra e também como outras crianças, elas têm características próprias.
O autismo afeta a capacidade da pessoa se comunicar e de se relacionar socialmente. Costuma se manifestar antes dos três anos e é mais frequente em meninos do que em meninas. O autismo é mais comum do que se imagina. O número mais aceito no mundo vem do Centro de Controle e Prevenção de Doenças, instituição ligada ao governo dos Estados Unidos. Existe uma criança com autismo para cada grupo de 110.
No Brasil, a única estatística feita até hoje, na cidade de Atibaia, no interior paulista, registrou em fevereiro de 2011 uma criança com autismo para cada 333. No mundo, a Organização das Nações Unidas estima que existam 70 milhões de autistas.
De acordo com a neurologista Adélia Souza, o diagnóstico precoce ainda é raro.
“A gente pede que as mães, naquele binômio mãe e filho da amamentação, se o seu filho olha no olho. Se ele conseguir olhar no olho, veja se ele acompanha com o olhar. A medida que ele for crescendo, se ele reconhece os familiares”, explica a neurologista.
Um casal tem dois filhos com autismo e descobriu uma forma de lidar com a situação. “Você tem um momento de luto, de tristeza e tem o momento da luta”, lembra a relações-públicas Alciene Carneiro.
“Nos não temos vergonha, convivemos com nossos filhos, levamos para todos os lugares, porque esconder seria uma forma de fazer com que eles não melhorem, que eles não evoluam, ou cresçam no seu dia-a-dia”, explica o administrador Marcelo Gil.
